Mathura in UP is a destination which is well known for its vegetarian food, as well as a hugely important stop on the pilgrimage circuit. Unlike the larger cities of India, restaurants here are not always from the formal sector. ET Hospitality world spoke with a young restaurateur from Mathura, Ankit Bansal, who is the MD and CEO of Bansal Foods and began operations in 2013. Bansal’s goal was to introduce what he says was “a luxury dining experience at affordable prices”.

“There are approximately 250-odd small restaurants across Mathura and the city has been growing in every respect, before the pandemic hit. I think even now, Mathura offers great investment for the F&B sector,” Bansal told ET Hospitality.

Covid-19 has had a huge hit on business, with industry revenues being reduced a minimum of 50 to 60%, according to him.
